One of my favorite experiences in Ireland was kissing the Blarney stone. By kissing the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle, it is claimed that one can receive the “Gift of the Gab”. I am not sure if I received the gift of gab but I did see a beautiful area.
One thing most people don’t tell you about the Blarney stone is exactly how high up it is. 90 ft (about 13 stories) of the smallest and windiest staircase you will ever have the joy of climbing. I am honestly not sure how servants of the time carried things up and down it. There is a rope to hold on to as you climb up and up and up. Once you get near the top you realize how small the people are below you (see picture below). It takes only a few seconds, of a strong Irish gentleman holding you upside down, to kiss the stone. I need to scan in the picture of me kissing the stone since my camera was acting up and I had to buy one.
